A good film for the telephone caller when direct distance dialing started.

This Was Revolutionary
Before direct dial , long distance calls were a rarity - reserved for utter emergencies; never just to blab. After direct dial though, calling long distance just to chat was suddenly common. However, it took a few such calls, and receipt of the phone bill to realize long distance wasn't cheap! Especially so some time later when in-state long distance calls costed way more than calls out of state - even across the country.
Area codes originally were often easy to remember repeating numbers with only "1" or "0" in the middle. Cell phones ended that very quick.
Nice film showing rotisserie phones.

Please Hold For The Next Availible Operator.
Interesting promo film telling telephone users of the new direct dialling system. You don't have to go through the operator anymore! Lots of lovely shots of people happily dialling away. Interesting that if you dialled a wrong number, you can just can get the name and number of the person you just called, call the operator, and they'll credit you! I hardly think such a tactic exists in todays world.
